Physiotherapy for Arthritis

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is not a single disease, but a way of referring to varying types of joint pain or joint disease. There are multiple types of arthritis, and it affects children, adults and older adults. The most common sufferers of arthritis are older women, however the CDC reports 1 in 250 children world-wide suffer some form of arthritis or rheumatic condition.

The most common symptoms of arthritis are joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. Other forms of arthritis include autoimmune and inflammatory types of arthritis which cause inflammation in the tissue of the joints, and in many other parts of the body tissue as well.

What are the on-flow affects of arthritis?

Without adequate treatment, arthritis can lead to other lifestyle diseases, as it demobilises the sufferer causing a decline in both physical and mental health.

In fact, Arthritis is the leading cause of chronic pain, and the second most common cause of disability and early retirement due to ill-health in Australia.
